The Alfa Touring Experience starts with an assortment of revving Alfas, spread over some cool scenic roads.  Toss in some covered bridges and points of interest. Top off with a special activity and extraordinary accommodations.  Repeat each day.  Results, miles of smiles.

What’s Alfa Touring?   It’s not “Pre-Convention Tour”!   It’s a proper name for a fun event!  It signals the launch of the convention and deserves equal status as a part of our annual gathering.

If there was to be a theme for Alfa Touring, ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles’, comes to mind, but has nothing in common with the shared experiences of Steve Martin and John Candy from the movie!

Registrants are encouraged to arrive Saturday, July 9th at the Campbell House to participate in an evening welcome & orientation party in preparation for a morning departure on Sunday.  Alfa Touring begins and ends at the Campbell House in Lexington, KY, the official hotel site of Alfas in the Bluegrass.  The Tour is a group event, but designed to set your own driving pace, whether that be subdued or spirited.  We will traverse parts of KY, OH, and IN, beginning Sunday, July 10th, and ending Wednesday July 13th.  Our 4 day, 3 night venture features scheduled stops, allowing adequate time to traverse each leg, and rejoin as a group at the end of each day.  Overnight accommodations are at rural but modern establishments, in tranquil settings.  With the Time Trials at Putnam Park on Wednesday, you’ll have a ‘deviation option’; participate either in the time trials and/or touring laps, or distillery tour.  Wednesday evening brings a special dinner activity, and concludes at the Campbell House that evening.

Alfa Touring encourages the buddy system by teaming up with at least one other vehicle or group that you feel comfortable touring with.  Sunday’s first leg is purposely staged so that you can make an evaluation on whose driving style and pace is best suited to your comfort level.  We’re not saying you can’t run solo, but that whole ‘safety-in-numbers’ system is a proven method of safety and security.  Pairing off with other Alfisti gives assurance you won’t be stuck alone by the side of the road should you become lost or stranded!

Maybe it’s preaching to the choir, but the importance of preparing your vehicle for the journey can’t be stressed enough.  Being without the use of your vehicle is no fun for anyone.  Even though we know you will prep your Alfa (or lesser vehicle), there’s always a chance that trouble may occur.  We’re working to make arrangements for emergency road service available, if necessary.

Alfa Touring will not be defined by past limits on cars and entrants.  Yes, there is a limited block of secured rooms, and limited space on one of the scheduled activities, but if those secured spots get taken, that doesn’t necessarily mean that more aren’t available.  Don’t hesitate to take the initiative to check those places once they’re gone!  Alfa Touring has but one simple rule:  Only paid registrants will receive access to the details!  As in the past, those who register for this event will be given the necessary information to secure their own reservations, and are responsible for all costs over and above the registration fee.  Registered participants will benefit from any negotiated pricing.  For now, this glimpse is meant to whet your appetite, and designed to appeal to any age and adventurer.

Let’s focus on getting ready to motor over the hills and dales, rivers and forests, of the Ohio River Valley’s scenic roads and byways!

July 10-13, 2011

IMPORTANT NOTE:  After registering for Alfa Touring, you will receive all the details.  Alfa Touring does include activities through-out Wednesday, July 13th.  If you plan on participating in the Time Trial or Touring Laps at Putnam,  don't worry!  The tour will bed in Indiana Tuesday night...about a 90 minute drive from the track.   Alfa Touring / Time Trail participants will depart the tour Tuesday evening to head to the Time Trial hotel for tech inspection.  If you are only participating in the touring laps, you can depart the tour Wednesday morning for Putnam and perhaps even rejoin the tour later in Kentucky.  Just be sure to give us advanced notice of your plans.  For more info visit:  ALFA TOURING FAQ
