Self Guided Tours

Sure, Alfa Romeo is the heart and soul of our club and of this convention!  But many of us have other interests and hobbies as well.  Do you ever wonder what’s around the next bend in the trail?  Are you fascinated by handmade creations that become family heirlooms?   Do you enjoy history?  Well then, take a morning or afternoon during Alfas in the Bluegrass, and drum up an adventure.  All you need to do is take a seat at our complimentary PC kiosk for Self Guided Tours.

Every day of the convention, in the “Convention Central” area at the rear entrance to the hotel, you will find a self service kiosk consisting of a PC, monitor, and printer.   This computer will be on the hotel wi-fi service and provide internet access via Internet Explorer.   Folders (bookmark.html files) will be loaded onto the IE  FAVORITES drop-down that will enable you to easily check out a wide variety of Self Guided Tours by going “one click” to their website.  The folder categories will be:

LOCAL INTEREST

HISTORICAL

ARCHITECTURE ARTS AND CRAFTS
LOCAL SCENERY OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
HORSE FARMS BOURBON TRAIL
HORSEBACK RIDING

Once you locate a website of interest to you, simply print out the map and/or directions provided on the website.  Grab your map, pile in your Alfa, and go there!  It’s that simple.  We’re serving up interesting places to see from right in town, to three hours drive.  It’s up to you, but you can do anything from take a ride on an historic riverboat (the beautifully restored Belle of Louisville), to hike the trails of the secluded and wild Red River Gorge, or go shopping in Berea for hand crafted quilts, décor, or pottery.   There’s also downtown horse drawn carriage rides, beautiful old mansions and estates, a Civil War battlefield, a covered bridge tour, and you can even eat at the historic Colonel Sanders original Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and motel down in Corbin, Kentucky.

In addition to the Self Guided Tours folder, the kiosk PC will also be loaded with other helpful informational folders:

LOCAL SERVICES (emergency care, tires, competent auto services, computer supplies and assistance, walk-in clinic, and other useful nearby services)

CONVENTION INFORMATION (general information on convention activities)

WOMENS ACTIVITIES (a smorgasbord of places to go and things to see of interest particularly to ladies, including tours, jewelry museum, shopping, handmade crafts, historic 19th century homes, and many other places)

KIDS ACTIVITIES (places of interest to your kids when they get burned out on Alfas and have memorized the hotel layout!)

RESTAURANTS (the best places to eat locally, by type of cuisine, from the best Mexican food to the best pizza)

LOCAL NAVIGATION (maps and services that will help you get around town and the Bluegrass region, in the absence of a GPS device!)

SCHEDULED GROUP TOURS (information on the three scheduled group tours as described on the convention registration form—the horse farm tour, distilleries tour, and horseback riding tour at the Kentucky Horse Park)

We want Alfas in the Bluegrass to be an enjoyable and memorable event for everyone in your party.   We hope the Self Guided Tours kiosk can help make that happen.
